We at Tier 1 Event Management, Inc. are consistently searching for the best and brightest young professionals to join our team. This recruitment effort has included a lot of interviews with millennials. We have seen quite a few tactics to get jobs, some of which were weird, some were inspired, and some were both:
• Giving Fake References: Some young people do not have real references to give when they apply to their first jobs. However, they know that they must provide something in order to avoid being looked over. This can lead to fake references.
• Sharing a Lot: Millennials are under a lot of pressure, perhaps more than any generation before. At Tier 1 Event Management, Inc., we have seen this lead to some very vulnerable moments during interviews.
• High Anxiety: For similar reasons as above, young people are often very anxious in interviews. Consider running more casual interviews in order to get the best versions of candidates. Of course, this won’t work for high-stress jobs such as sales.
• Being Funny: Sometimes millennials will crack jokes during interviews that may not seem immediately appropriate for the setting. Don’t judge them on that particular moment but whether such a personality would fit your culture.
These interview tactics and events are certainly a little uncommon. However, we at Tier 1 Event Management, Inc. try to look past the interview to the job ahead.
