Delegation is a vital skill for leaders in the business world, but it involves more than simply giving someone a responsibility. To do it well, we at Tier 1 Event Management, Inc. suggest that you need to develop trust and open lines of communication between you and your team members. Here are some suggestions for effective delegation:
• Be Clear in Your Expectations: Make sure the person or persons to whom you delegate have complete understanding of your request. This should include a picture of what successful completion of the task looks like. Encourage questions if anyone is uncertain.
• Give the Power Necessary to Complete the Project: Along with a task should come the authority to see the task through. Empower your team members with the resources they need to succeed.
• Check for Buy-In: Our Tier 1 Event Management, Inc. team knows how easy it is to assume that your team members are enthusiastic to do what you ask them without actually knowing if they’re committed to the project. Ask questions to make sure your people are both able and willing.
• Check Work and Reward Results: Different amounts of feedback will be required for different associates, but it’s important to stay at least marginally involved so any issues can be dealt with immediately. Be open about the rewards for excellent outcomes (and poor ones).
Tier 1 Event Management, Inc. leaders have used these delegation strategies with great success, and we’re sure they’ll work for you as well.
