We’re not sure there is such a thing as an easy Tier 1 Event Management interview question, but some certainly do seem more difficult than others. One of the most notorious is the open-ended, “Tell me about yourself.” While this may seem like an invitation to share anything about yourself you like, our hiring managers assure you that there are right and wrong ways to approach this request.
In their opinion, the best responses to, “Tell me about yourself,” will always be tailored to the Tier 1 Event Management position for which someone is interviewing. It’s a chance for you to show that you have researched the company and the role, and that you’ve considered the specific skills and talents that make you the best option. If you really want to stand out from the crowd, have a few stories prepared that show how you’ve already displayed these traits.
The temptation for many is to use this as an opening to talk about their passion projects or hobbies. This might make for an interesting conversation, and could also reveal if you’d be a good fit for the team and culture, but those opportunities will present themselves in other places. It’s best to think of, “Tell me about yourself,” as being short for, “Tell me about yourself as the person we should hire for this job.”
Understanding the importance of specific interview questions makes the whole process much more relaxed.
